* Personal pack of Joseph Fernandez, K9 Behaviorist
Advanced K9 behavioral dog training for severe reactivity and aggression cases in the Houston, TX and surrounding areas.
You LOVE your fur baby. You also love your children, your spouse, your other pets, your guests, and the safety (and peace) that exists in your home. If you own a dog who believes that HE runs your house, owns your resources, and leads your pack, instead of YOU and the other humans in your home, this can become a MAJOR safety and legal liability risk FAST.
That’s where WE come in. We work to make the seemingly impossible actually possible for you and your dog, at comparable rates you can afford, to help you get your pack in line FAST — so you and your family can enjoy more peace of mind and get back to enjoying what matters.
(We help with regular training cases and puppy training too!)

Get to know Joseph’s Board-And-Train Program
Joseph Fernandez is a reputable K9 Behaviorist in the Houston area with several years of experience working with some of the worst reactivity, aggression, fear, anxiety, and elopement cases in the state of Texas. Sometimes even the most experienced trainers can struggle with severe cases. Joseph’s local word-of-mouth reputation proceeds him for a reason… he has successfully accomplished advanced rehabilitative training goals with dogs that many other trainers CAN’T — in fact, he takes case referrals from other local trainers for some of the most extreme cases they are uncomfortable working themselves. Joseph’s primary goals are to help bring safety, stability, and peace back into the home, help to reduce your anxiety as a dog owner, and help you and your whole family feel safer and more confident handling your pack — both inside your home, and out in the world as well.
Joseph’s flagship Board-And-Train Program has produced amazing results in some of the most difficult cases and this is where every new dog and their family starts working together with him. During this intensive, immersive 2-week long program, your dog will live with Joseph, his family, and his personal pack in his home while undergoing round-the-clock supervision, skills building, and behavioral modification in a variety of daily living circumstances. This is designed to expose your dog to various real world circumstances within a family setting, similar to their own home and public outings with you, rather than inside of a facility or in other strange surroundings that are not likely to be reproduced once they go home.
The Board-And-Train program includes daily obedience training, leash manners, house manners, kennel and potty training, socialization with humans and other animals, behavioral modification of the identified problematic behaviors, and an introduction to public spaces. The program includes a 2-hour “go-home” lesson with you and all of your family members who regularly reside inside of or visit the home, one follow-up lesson approximately two weeks after program completion. Your dog is also eligible for FREE attendance at his group training classes for the life of the dog, availability for post-program boarding for the life of your dog, and eligibility for participating in more post-program advanced trainings and other services that Joseph only offers for graduated dogs.
On-Site Services
If you need help getting your dog safely kenneled for transportation to the Board-And-Train program, this on-site service is available for an additional fee.
Joseph does NOT offer one-on-one lessons for dogs who have NOT completed the Board-And-Train Program, but this service is available after program completion as follow-up support for you and your dog.
How severe of a case can Joseph handle?
Even for some of the most SEVERE cases facing possible behavioral euthanasia, Joseph has been able to produce results that at times seem impossible to change lives all the way around and give these dogs and their families a second chance at a stable life together.
Joseph has worked regularly with cases involving habitual elopers (AKA escape artists requiring trapping and darting just to apprehend them), breeds known to be difficult or high risk to work with (like the Cane Corso, Belgian Malinois, Presa Canario, Akita, Dogo Argentino, Boerboel, Kangal, Bull Terrier, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and various Livestock Guardian Breeds), and is skilled at safely and confidently handling severe aggression and bite/attack cases.
In short, Joseph is not an amateur trainer who bites off more than he can chew, runs up your bill, and then leaves you with handling the majority of the safety risk at home by yourself. He rehabilitates some of the absolute worst behavioral cases in the city, KNOWS how to stay safe during handling these kinds of cases, and sends your dog home with markedly changed behavior and a safer, more confident handler family as well.
Post-Program Lifetime Benefits
When your dog completes the Board-And-Train program, he becomes eligible for FREE attendance at Joseph’s group training classes for the life of the dog, post-program boarding for the life of your dog, and for participating in more post-program advanced trainings and other services that Joseph only offers for graduated dogs.
FAQ’s
Do you offer protection, service dog, or sports dog training?
No we do not. We focus primarily on the behavioral modification and rehabilitation of severe reactivity, aggression, fear, anxiety, or elopement cases. We do also offer our Board-And-Train Program for regular foundational training to puppies and adult dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds!
I need behavioral help! What’s the first step?
The first step is to give Joseph a call directly to discuss your dog’s unique case and your training goals. Joseph will help you determine if his program is the best fit for your dog, and when you can get started.
How much does the Board-And-Train program cost? Why?
Our flagship 2-week long Board-And-Train Program costs $2400 at our regular rate. Each additional week (only if absolutely necessary for a specific case and always agreed to in advance) is billed at $1200 per week.
501(c)(3) rescue organizations pay $1800 for the same program, with additional weeks billed for $900 per week.
There is a $250 non-refundable deposit required to lock in your intake date/time, and this goes towards the total cost of your program amount regardless of if the program is billed at the regular rate or the rescue rate.
There are times where we recommend special equipment as well, such as e-collars, slip leads, or place boards. If your dog requires these items, we will help you order these at our discounted rate that we get as a business so that you are not paying as much.
We have had questions at times from interested dog owners about why we charge this much. Some people expect us to charge much more, and some people feel our rates are too high.
The answer is simple… every dog that comes through our Board-And-Train program receives near 24/7 supervision, immersive family interaction, behavior modification, training drills, playtime, and regular caregiving and handling from far more than just Joseph as the Trainer, but from his entire family inside the home as well. Everyone here individually provides one-on-one scenarios and simulated training interactions designed to expose your dog to as much natural day-to-day stimuli as possible. We want the dogs receiving their training in an environment as close to what they will live in inside of a family home as possible, which is why we consider our program to be a high value immersive training experience. In order to reproduce daily family life, it requires participation from everyone in the home! Each of our personal dogs and even our family cat has a job in your dog’s intensive training here with Joseph at Bark to Brilliance!
With that being said, we have priced our program as fairly as possible to account for the heavy work involved in rehabilitating your dog and real costs that we incur, while also not pricing our services so high (like we have seen in some of our local competitors) that the average person can’t afford our program. We want to be able to help as many dogs/families as reasonably possible and make sure our effort is fairly compensated at the same time for the amount of value we offer in our program specifically.
Our prices do tend to increase slightly each year to account for economic challenges and inflation, so please check back to our website here to ensure accurate pricing before referring us to your friends and family members in the future!
What other services do you offer?
Most of our services that we offer are for dogs who have already completed our Board-And-Train Program, such as FREE lifetime participation in our group training classes, boarding services, basic baths and nail trimming for more difficult dogs that won’t typically tolerate regular grooming, and on-site one-on-one lessons as a supportive measure for the life of your dog. Reach out to Joseph today for any questions regarding those services!
How do I know this program will work for my dog?
Dogs are living creatures with free will who make independent choices that are unpredictable by nature, regardless of the amount of training they receive. For this reason, it is impossible to guarantee results in any dog training program, and it is our professional opinion that anyone who tries to guarantee any dog training results is inaccurately representing the nature of dogs in general. As well, it is impossible to promise or predict 100% improvement of behaviors in an unpredictable living being.
However, with all of this being explained… successful dog training relies heavily on your dog’s foundational work and understanding of various commands and drills, as well as consistent follow-up training and expectations honored and practiced by the dog’s handler each and every day for the life of the dog. When your dog goes home, you as the handler are expected to follow up by practicing at home training consistently in order to maintain the results of our foundational training work that we lay out for your dog during the program.
It is our belief that “it works if you work it“ — i.e., the more you work with your dog to reinforce the commands, drills, rules, and expectations that we teach your dog throughout the program, the stronger (and safer) your results will be at home. It is our goal to train YOU as thoroughly as we train your dog so that YOU are just as confident as your dog is when completing the training program. This is why we offer our 2 week post-program follow up lesson, FREE ongoing group training support for the life of your dog, lifetime boarding (with trainer refresh options) for dogs who have completed our program, and dedicated one-on-one support anytime day or night from Joseph directly for every dog that leaves our program.
We’ve got your back from start to finish… because safe, happy dogs and confident owners are what we strive to produce every single day here at Bark to Brilliance.
Do I have to pay everything up front?
No! To get started, Joseph requires a $250 non-refundable booking deposit to lock in your intake date/time. This deposit is a part of the total cost of the program. The remaining balance due will be split into two payments: 50% will be due on the date of intake, and 50% will be due on the date of go-home. Any other balances (such as the cost of special equipment or additional training weeks necessary for more severe cases) will be discussed with you in advance and paid separately from these two dates for the program cost explained here.
What is my booking deposit for?
A lot of work goes into collecting all of your information, gathering backgrounds on your dog and the unique case you have with their behavior, preparing for your dog’s arrival, formulating training goals and strategies for your unique case, and other preparatory tasks involved in preparing for each incoming training dog. Your booking deposit of $250 is non-refundable for this reason, and it allows you to lock in a date and time for your intake appointment to begin training your dog in the Board-And-Train program.
However, if you need to change your intake date/time for any reason, this is not a problem! Just reach out to Joseph directly at (346) 244-0598 and he will adjust your appointment to whenever is convenient for you to start the program. No hassle!
Where do I send my deposit or remaining payments?
Joseph accepts cash, cashier’s checks, money orders, or debit/credit card payments via Venmo, Cashapp, PayPal, or Zelle accepted through barktobrilliancehtx@gmail.com or (346) 244-0598. Be sure to put your dog’s name in the payment description so that your payment is properly assigned for your dog!
Where do I bring my dog, and what should I bring?
On the day of intake, you will bring your dog to Joseph’s home at 15307 La Paloma Drive, Houston, TX 77083. Once you arrive, remain in your vehicle and call Joseph at (346) 244-0598 so that he can provide you with further instructions!
For the training program, you will need to provide enough food for your dog to cover 2-3 weeks. That’s it! Please leave all toys, harnesses, collars, treats, kennel bedding/accessories, and other fur baby belongings at home.
You will need to provide proof of vaccination, current flea/tick treatment, known parasite history, and general health history before your dog can start the program, so make sure you email that over to barktobrilliancehtx@gmail.com or bring it with you at intake so we can take copies to keep on file for you and your dog.
How will I know my dog is OK while he is away from me?
Joseph has worked with dozens of rescues throughout the years and has helped rescue dogs himself, so he is well aware of the very real concerns that dog owners and rescue organizations face when dropping a dog off for Board-And-Training. For these reasons, Joseph would like to encourage you first and foremost to do your due diligence and scour his social media posts and Google ratings yourself to hear from other confident dog owners who have worked with Joseph directly through this program. His official Google business listing is still relatively new, as he has recently launched out independently to form his own company in 2026, but his Facebook and Instagram have been documenting his training cases that he personally works for YEARS.
There are hundreds and hundreds of dogs Joseph has trained through this Board-And-Train program, and he posts them all on his socials. You will find real life dog owners there that vouch for him and his training skills. Joseph endeavors to post regular detailed social media updates on Facebook, including photos and videos, almost daily for every single dog in his care for the duration of the program. He cannot post every single dog every single day, but he tries his hardest to update daily! He will make sure you are following him on his social media pages before you leave from intake so that you can start watching your fur baby’s progress right away and have peace of mind while you are separated from your loved one.
Finally, if you get worried or have concerns at ANY time, you are ALWAYS welcome to give Joseph a call anytime. Joseph will give you a thorough update on your dog’s progress and help ease your mind during this time while you are waiting to see your fur baby again!
Rescue Organizations
Joseph partners regularly with different rescue organizations to help with the rehabilitation of special case dogs that struggle with these more severe behavioral issues to produce happier, safer, and more adoptable dogs. He offers a discounted Board-And-Train rate as well as special case fostering for reputable 501(c)(3) rescues for unique behavioral cases enlisted in their programs, and he can accept cases from all over the nation. If a rescue organization needs assistance with transportation to and from the program, this is also an option on a case-by-case basis.
If you represent a 501(c)(3) rescue organization and would like more information about partnering with Joseph for rehabilitative training and fostering, reach out to him today to see if it may be a good fit to work together for your organization’s needs.
Joseph also donates his training program for severe or unique cases, including for feral dogs, which he identifies and selects on a case-by-case basis through referrals from different rescue organizations and other trainers. He is able to do this, from time to time and as sponsored programs permit, through passionate sponsors who purchase his Board-And-Train program in advance to be donated to a dog/family in true serious need at a later date within the same year once referred, identified, and selected. Joseph accepts sponsored program purchases online all throughout the year from anyone willing and able to sponsor a training dog, to help improve the lives of dogs and families all over the nation.
